We are here to assist you with the three stages of our admission process. Don’t hesitate to contact us if you have questions.
- The first step is to make an appointment for an Educational Success Consultation with our principal. You may call us (540-740-8237) to schedule an appointment. This meeting is devoted to discussing the particular gifts/needs of your child and visioning for success.
- Please bring your child’s most current report card with you to the consultation. (These documents would also be helpful to bring, but they are not required at the time of the consultation: standardized test results, teacher’s recommendation, and record release form.)
- Following your consultation with the principal, you’ll have the chance to take a tour of the school. During the school year, tours are led by our current students.
- During your visit, you will be given a packet with application and registration materials. (For your convenience, most of the forms in the packet are also available on this website. You may download and print the PDFs if you would like to complete some paperwork early, or if you misplace any forms.)
After we have had a chance to meet with you for an Educational Success Consultation and established a mutual match between your child and our school, these items will need to be completed in order for your child to be considered for acceptance:
- Records and Teacher’s Recommendation received from previous school (if applicable)
- TestingOur resource specialist will test your child in a one-on-one setting to assess your student’s academic needs. We are able to determine whether a child may need remedial help or enrichment work in the areas of reading and math. For younger children (4-6 years) we use the Gesell Developmental Observation, a developmental screening, to measure readiness for school. The Wide Range Achievement Test (WRAT4) and the informal Qualitative Reading Inventory (QRI) are used for older students. A Consent for Testing (make a link) form needs to be completed and signed prior to the test administration. After the tests have been evaluated, our resource specialist will make an appointment to discuss your child’s results with you.
Upon acceptance for enrollment, please complete the following items to conclude registration.

|Financial Agreement||The principal will complete this form for each family to be signed by a parent/guardian.|
|Compliance Form||Complete one form per family.|
|Virginia School Entrance Health Form||Complete page 1 of the form for each child. Submit to your medical provider to complete pages 2-4. A health examination taken within 12 months prior to the first day of school is acceptable.|
|Copy of Birth Certificate||Present the child’s original birth certificate to be copied in the school office.|
|Photo Usage Consent||Complete one form per family.|
|Continuing Consent to Treatment||Complete one form per student.|
Please Note: All new students are admitted on a probationary status for one grading period (9 weeks). During this period, the student’s academic progress and behavior will be evaluated to determine if SVAE is able to meet the student’s needs and if the student is making a positive contribution to the school program.
